Powering the next generation
of clean energy with MEAs built to last

Duramea specialises in developing and manufacturing cutting-edge Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) technology that powers the hydrogen economy.

We drive the clean energy transition to create
a planet worth living on.
We make affordable green hydrogen possible by building
the durable heart of fuel cells and electrolysers.
The membrane electrode assembly (MEA) is the heart of fuel cells and electrolysers, determining how efficient, powerful, and durable they are. Our high performance MEAs mean lower energy use, longer lifetimes, and higher-purity hydrogen for clean-energy applications. They also improve cost efficiency, making sustainable energy more accessible.
Fuel cells generate electricity from hydrogen H₂ and oxygen O2, with pure water as the only exhaust. Using green hydrogen, they provide a clean, efficient, and reliable way to power a wide range of applications.
As a result, fuel cells are one of the best alternatives to diesel engines and other fossil-fuel systems, delivering substantial CO₂ reductions and driving the transition towards sustainable energy.
Electrolysers use electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, enabling clean hydrogen production when powered by renewable energy. Hydrogen is already one of the most widely produced fuels in the world. Yet today it is still largely made from fossil fuels.
Electrolysers offer the best alternative by producing CO₂-free hydrogen, which can be used in key industries such as fertilisers, steel production, and transportation.
Duramea is a spin-off from the Institute of Chemical Process Engineering and Environmental Technology at TU Graz, building on more than 25 years of expertise in fuel cells and electrolysers. We manufacture advanced MEAs in 3-layer (CCMs), 5-layer (with subgaskets), and 7-layer (with GDLs) configurations, using state-of-the-art coating methods such as slot-die coating, spray-coating, and electrospinning.
With our own test benches and a wide range of analysis tools, up to SEM measurements, we ensure precise characterisation and consistently high quality. A unique differentiator of our MEAs is the patent-pending polyaniline (PANI) coating technology. This innovation provides exceptional corrosion resistance and significantly extends the lifetime of our MEAs, setting a new benchmark for durability and performance.
